Challenge

The TMD Cloud enables medical institutions to store patient data encrypted in the cloud, share it and use it for digital tools and research in a privacy-compliant manner. Strict data separation and security measures, including high scalability for sharing and archiving large amounts of data, are essential.

Solution

The platform is a multi-tenant system with strictly separated storage of medical images in a multi-cloud environment to meet various data privacy and security requirements. It uses a modern cloud-native microservices architecture for high scalability. Data is encrypted at multiple levels, and access is controlled through fine-grained, role-based user and access management. The platform enables automatic extraction of metadata from the DICOM format and provides a purpose-built web-based user interface for end-users and administrators.

The Client

Telepaxx delivers modern IT technologies such as cloud computing, big data handling and artificial intelligence to healthcare. For 25 years, more than 600 medical institutions such as Asklepios, RhönKlinikum AG and Knappschaftskliniken have entrusted Telepaxx with their currently more than 20 billion health data.

The Challenge

The goal of Telepaxx Medical Data is to provide clinics, physicians and researchers with privacy-compliant, secure and rapidly integrable cloud solutions for medical data.

The Telepaxx Medical Data Cloud - called TMD Cloud - allows medical institutions to store patient data encrypted in the cloud, to share it and to use it for digital tools as well as for research in a data protection-compliant manner.

In doing so, the platform must ensure that data from the various clients is stored strictly separately from one another. Due to the sensitive nature of the information, data protection, governance, security, identity and access management must be ensured. For the exchange and archiving of these very large data volumes (Big Data), high scalability of the platform is a prerequisite.

Our Solution

  • The TMD was developed as a multi-tenant system, which allows archiving medical images of different clients strictly separated from each other.
  • The TMD is not bound to a single cloud provider but designed as a multi-cloud environment. This allows meeting different classes of data protection and security.
  • The TMD is based on a modern cloud-native microservice architecture. This ensures high scalability.
  • The TMD meets the highest security requirements: Data is stored with multi-level encryption and access is controlled via fine-grained, role-based user and access management.
  • The TMD allows automatic extraction of metadata from the DICOM format, such as the acquisition device or information about image series for studies.
  • The TMD provides a specially designed web-based user interface for end users and administrators.
